History:

In Nigeria there are some ancient cultures related with the different ages. The Nok culture made the transition to the Iron Age.  The features of Nok art include naturalism, stylized treatment of the eyes and mouth, relative proportions of the human head, body, and feet, distortions of the human facial features, and treatment of animal forms. Bronzes, that have been dated to about the 9th century CE, were discovered in the 1930s and 1940s at Igbo Ukwu, close to the city of Onitsha. As well as they reveal a high artistic tradition, they reveal a well-structured society with wide-ranging economic relationships.
